What to Wear to a Wedding in Plus Size

What to Wear to a Wedding in Plus Size

Even if you're not going to be a wedding guest in the immediate future, it's a good idea to have at least one appropriate outfit on hand. That can save you from weeks (if not months) of worrying about what you're going to wear.

Can You Wear an Outfit to Multiple Weddings?

Yes. Even if there are several people attending who have already seen you wearing that outfit. When your family or friend group fills your schedule with weddings, you don't need to buy separate outfits for each one. If you want to do that, go right ahead. But don't feel obligated.

Can You Wear Versatile Classics as a Wedding Guest?

Not if the dress code is black tie, or you're the mother of the bride (or mother of the groom). You need to go extra fancy in those cases. Be sure to check out our offerings from Kiyonna. They have lace, velvet, and embroidered dresses that will take your breath away.

In every other wedding guest scenario, you can absolutely wear a versatile classic that you can wear again and again. And I'm not just talking about pieces that you can wear to other weddings and special occasions.

The Vikki Vi Formula for Plus Size Outfits

Essentially, Vikki Vi outfits include a relatively plain base layer worn with a top layer that clinches the look. That base layer can be a dress like the Maxi Tank Dress or a pants and tank combo. (Yes, you can totally wear pants as a wedding guest.)

The top layer is usually a jacket of some type. Put a blazer on and the Maxi Tank Dress is office-appropriate, but not wedding guest appropriate. But wear a print jacket with the dress, and you've reached the appropriate level of special.

Or you can skip the top layer entirely. This makes for an elegantly minimal look. (Don't worry about showing off your upper arms. Everyone else is too busy wondering if they have lipstick on their teeth to pay attention to your arms. If you really, really can't enjoy yourself with bare biceps, wear my all-time fave, a T-Shirt Style Dress.)

This formula makes it possible to wear different outfits at each wedding without having to buy a whole new dress. Though as I said before, there's nothing wrong with wearing the same jacket to multiple weddings.

Getting More Wear Out of Your Wedding Guest Outfit

You can get a lot of use out of your versatile base layer. With the right jacket, it's office appropriate or just right for a casual hang with friends.

Even if you're not a maximalist like I am, you can wear even the splashiest of jackets in a variety of situations. Slip one on to elevate your outfit for cocktail parties, holiday parties, or dinner out with friends. Life is short - you might as well look as fabulous on the outside as you are on the inside as often as possible.
