The Vikki Vi Magic Formula For Plus Size Fabulousness
Posted by Jen Anderson on

It's actually pretty easy to put together a fabulous outfit - when you know the formula. You don't even need to spend much time or effort learning it. Here it is:
Base Layer + Top Layer = Fabulous Outfit
Your Base Layer can be a Maxi Tank Dress. Or a Skirt/Top combination. Or Pants and a top. Your Top Layer is a fashion jacket (something worn for style, and not for warmth) or a sheer topper like the ones we have from Sterling.
That's it.
Why The Formula Is So Powerful
The formula helps you to look polished and put together without putting in a lot of thought or effort. No more taking everything out of the closet to figure out if this top goes with those pants. That was kinda fun in high school, but these days I'd rather focus my energy on other things.
This approach allows for so much variety with a minimum of pieces. Which means that you'll never be stuck with nothing to wear. When we say we have nothing to wear, what we really mean is that we don't have an outfit for who we need to be today. We have plenty of outfits for our usual routine, but anything out of the ordinary can feel like a fashion emergency. That's why I write so much about special occasion outfits and job interview clothing.
With the formula, you grab a Base Layer and add the appropriate Top Layer and you're ready for anything. This is why I always suggest buying top layers when one grabs your attention. That way you'll have it when you need it.
Let's Talk Examples
The classic Vikki Vi outfit is monochromatic, such as a Maxi Tank Dress with a matching Kimono Jacket. Rather than being boring, this look lets you experiment with colors without having to worry about mixing and matching colors. If you like the look of Limoncello, Carnation, or Boysenberry but you're unsure which colors to wear with them, this look lets you go for it without a second thought.
When you want to kick it up a notch, you can wear a print Kimono Jacket or even a Kimono Duster. Slip on a Blazer and you've got a business-appropriate outfit. A bold print or sheer topper creates a great special occasion ensemble.
The Formula Is Frugal
With the formula, you can get all these looks with the same base layer. So instead of buying several complete outfits, you get several outfits from fewer pieces. That's right - buying that breathtaking topper is actually the economical choice.
You're going to be wearing the same base pieces often, so you're better off with well-made clothing. The up-front cost is higher for a long-lasting pair of black pants, but since you won't have to replace them every year or so the Cost Per Wear ends up lower than if you went with cheaper pants.
Be sure to take good care of your base clothes, so they'll last. Don't put them in the dryer and don't hang them in the closet.
It Really Is Magic
The real magic of this formula is that you'll be confident that you look your best. That confidence makes you look even better.
