Plus Size Dresses That Don’t Cling
Share
Vikki Vi Classic plus size dresses don’t cling. Let’s talk about why and what you should be looking for in your search for non-clingy clothes.
There’s something va-va-voom about a dress that clings in all the right places. Aside from custom-made and custom-tailored dresses, those dresses don’t really exist. And when a dress clings to all the wrong places, it’s really disappointing. We tend to blame ourselves for this, but it’s really the fault of the clothing.
Start With Fit
Not every style is made for every body shape - and that’s OK. If you’re not sure which silhouettes are your best friends, start with my excellent (if I do say so myself) Ultimate Plus Size Guide to Dressing for Your Body Shape. The tl;dr is that your clothes should be shaped like your body. I wear a lot of a-line dresses and tunics because my body is a-line (aka pear shaped). Respect your curves - you wouldn’t wear something with a seam across the hips or bust, so don’t wear pieces with defined waists that will only cut across your tummy.

The Fabric Is Crucial
If you want a dress that doesn’t cling, you need a fabric with some weight to it. Fabric that’s too flimsy won’t drape over your curves, which is what we’re looking for. Note I’m not talking about bulk. There are plenty of bulky sweaters that just hang there, pulled down by gravity and clinging on to your body like an overtired toddler.
Vikki Vi Classics and Jersey Classics are anything but bulky, yet they have the weight necessary to drape instead of cling. I wear a lot of Vikki Vi and I don’t wear shapewear, and I’ve never found any of it clingy.
As for the other brands we offer, just trust Danielle’s judgement. She only selects clothes that you’ll love as much as Vikki Vi.

Focus On Cost Per Wear
You may need to rethink your clothing budget. Fast fashion is cheap for a reason - it’s poorly made and the fabric is flimsy and clingy. We’ve all been overcharged for low quality plus size clothing. Expensive doesn’t always mean well made. Read reviews to see if a brand is going to provide the quality you deserve.
Think of dresses that don’t cling as investment pieces. You’ll be able to wear them again and again. And Vikki Vi Classics wear like iron, so you’ll be able to wear the same pieces for years. That results in a much lower cost per wear than more inexpensive clothing.

Look For Minimalist Styles
Vikki VI Classics are minimalist for a reason. A dress that’s going to hold up to regular wear for 20 years needs to exist outside of trends so that you can actually wear it. Accessories like fashion jackets can take a plain black (or blue or red or purple) dress from minimalist to maximalist.
Start With Just One
Vikki Vi Classics can be a lot like potato chips - you won’t be able to stop with just one. We release classic styles in new colors and prints regularly. But it all starts with your first Vikki Vi dress. Black is super popular for all the usual reasons, and our Sale section is always worth checking out. Before you know it, you'll be regularly checking New Arrivals.
