Best Plus Size Transitional Pieces
We all know that when the weather is all over the place, we should wear light layers so we can add and remove pieces as needed. But it can be tricky to figure out which garments are light and which are just flimsy and cheaply made.
We don't do poorly made clothing around here, so you've come to the right place. Vikki Vi uses several different fabrics of different weights. Classics are the heaviest, Silky Classics are a bit lighter, and Jersey Classics are the lightest.
Tanks and Short Sleeve Tees
Vikki Vi does a lot of Sleeveless Shells, which can horrify the uninitiated. No, we're not trying to cut costs by cutting sleeves, and no one expects you to bare your upper arms if you don't want to.
(Seriously, though - give it a try. It's so liberating to realize that no one cares about how your upper arms look except for you.)
The reason we do a lot of Tanks is that they don't add bulk when you wear a jacket over them. Remember the last time you wore a blazer over a long sleeved top? Super uncomfortable.
Short sleeve tees are an excellent option for when you know you may be removing your jacket and really, really, really don't want to expose your upper arms.
Fashion Jackets
This is where the whole light layers thing get really confusing. When we think about jackets, we picture something meant to keep us warm when we're outdoors. But there are plenty of jackets that are meant to be worn indoors.
Think of fashion jackets like Blazers - it makes perfect sense to wear them inside and they tie the whole outfit together.
And here's a fabulous little bonus to wearing fashion jackets - they're easy to mix and match with your other separates, yet they seem like advanced fashion. They make you look smart, and not just in the fashion sense. They signal that you understand style rules a little better than your peers and colleagues, which commands respect.
(I don't know any woman who couldn't do with a little more respect from everyone around her.)
Jackets That Are Also Tops
Some fashion jackets can be worn buttoned up like a regular top. Or looked at from the opposite direction, some tops can be worn unbuttoned over a Shell.
I'm thinking of button-up cardigans like Vikki Vi's 3/4 Sleeve Cardigan and button-up tops like our Camp Shirt.
When To Wear Transitional Pieces
Obviously, transitional clothing comes in handy in the spring and fall because the weather is transitioning from winter to summer (or the other way around). But it's also useful when your day includes someplace that's aggressively air conditioned or heated.
Transitional clothes also come in handy when you're traveling. You're away from your usual environment and you need to dress for cool mornings, hot middays, and cool evenings all in one outfit.
The great thing about synthetic fabrics (which breathe so much better than they did decades ago) is that they don't wrinkle. You can start the day wearing a fashion jacket, remove it and stuff it into your bag or briefcase, and then pull it out later in the day to find it's still perfectly wearable.
